Seeing as I'm aiming to develop a modern typeface with art-deco sensibility, this could be considered to come under the trend of Retro-futurism; a concept where current ideas are designed with influences from the past, which tend to be period specific, and incorporate modern day themes and technology into the past, or where speculative futuristic designs are crafted continuing with current day ideals and culture.

I will explore this topic as it is of interest to me and can be applied to my designs and design process. The trend is also heavily involved in popular culture in an all manner of mediums and exploring these avenues which combines past, present and future into one theme or idea may help influence my project.
