Elasticated waists and cuffs

E – Elasticated waists and cuffs (on jeans and trousers)
As mentioned briefly in Drop-crotch trousers, another new trend is that of elasticated waists and cuffs on trousers and even on jeans. The origins again could be linked to that of harem pants or tracksuit bottoms but as to why it was chosen to apply this to casual attire, such as chinos, I’m at a loss. This combination is something I don’t really understand. I don’t see why you would want an elasticated waist on your jeans, given that most denim items are smart casual at best, the addition of an elasticated waist and cuffs make them just look downright sloppy and could be viewed as jogging bottoms. As for cuffed chinos and other casual trousers it comes off as fancy dress rather than day to day clothing but hey maybe you want to look like a pirate or Aladdin.
Exceptions where this faux pas is acceptable
Fancy dress.
